CSUMB Near Miss Program

Soledad District Seniors: “A-G” Near Miss?  CSUMB Extends an Opportunity  

HS Seniors in the Soledad Unified School District who are just shy of meeting the “A-G” GPA or a course  requirement for admission to Cal State Monterey Bay may still be admitted for the Fall 2024 term. If students  have the potential, are driven to succeed academically and they submit an application by May 17th, Cal State  Monterey Bay will review the application on a case-by-case basis for Admission for the Fall 2024. The  partnership with the Superintendent of Soledad Unified School District and CSUMB will recognize student  academic potential beyond challenges that students may have faced through the past few years.  

Here's how it works  

If you are a new applicant that is missing an “A-G” course or have a GPA that is close to the CSUMB  requirement, you'll be evaluated for admission based on supplemental factors which include, but are not  limited to: 

• Number of courses exceeding minimum "a-g" requirements 

• An overall GPA of 2.0 for this program 

• A GPA in HS math and/or science courses based on their selected major 

• Household income, extracurricular and leadership involvement 

• Soledad Nomination for potential (each school will send CSUMB list, letters of rec not necessary) • Submit your admissions application before May 17th to be considered for this program and CSUMB  will follow up with all new Soledad applications directly 

Commuter Scholarships: By submitting your admissions application by May 17th, you'll also be eligible for a  limited number of specific one-time $500 commuter scholarships specifically for new applications from  Soledad for this program. No additional scholarship application is needed and these are “first come, first  served.”
